acrylic sinks
We purchased a Acrilic sink to be installed in our new granite countertop. AS a plunbing contractor for decades I should have known better. An acrylic fixture's top gelcoat is VERY senxitive to scratches and damage. AS a result, it has been the last chosen product that I have/ would ever sell to my customers. Unfortunately I had a temporary loss of memory. When I shared with the retailer of what we had chose, they just rolled their eyes at us. In a matter of weeks, the finish was dulled and scratched to the core of the fixture leaving highly visible scratch marks. How I wish I had thought better! Now that the granite has been cut to the profile of the sink - we are stuck with this product without having an extreme cost to replace it. The one good thing of this sink, thus far, os that it holds water and hasn't yet had a leak
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Q: What exactly is a cast acryilc sink? Is it acrylic all the way through?
Asked March 17, 2008
1 Answer
A: It's got a fiberglass backing but other than that is solid. This is not the best sink if you have hard water issues and in that case go with a stainless or porcelains sink.
